Strange and Intersting thoughts and or updates "The meaning of life is to struggle. Victory or defeat is in the hands of God alone. But to struggle is man's duty and his joy." Taken from a poster in the the office of the Aga Khan Educational Development. Very Budhist for an Islamic state, but is is attatched to a picture of their Hazir Iman (Spiritual leader). I also like the idea of free will, if victory is in the hands of God alone, then the Lord helps those who help themselves. |

Daily Journals June 13, (well past bedtime the night before I leave) Well not for the first or the last time I am off trippn again. This time across this great country of Canada. Camping through northern Ontario, freeloading off friends in the Peg, Sas, and Calgary. The first big wedding of the summer is Dogger and Tara in Pemberton, then a few weeks of hiking and exploring Vancouver island and the Queen Charlotte Islands before the last finishing touches on Nina and Julien’s wedding in Portland. It should be educational. What a crazy year it has been, we need many beers to tell the lessons I learned this school year. Somehow I always get a slightly grey version of whatever I mistakenly ask for. Port Hope reintroduced me to how I want to teach here, supply teaching gave me a new bag of story telling and curriculum tricks and I finished the year with three exceptional story telling lessons in Jackson’s Park, high school math and World Religions. I think in my own way I have earned this. Right now the wind blows me westward; to be continued. June 24 Nina's wedding is in a month, Ryan and Tara's is Saturday, I am gone eleven days so far. It is the best trip I have ever taken already. Besides enjoying the adventure I am studying the grade eight history curriculum from inside museums and behind the lens of a camera. The GPS has led me astray 3 times and I didn't even use it through British Columbia. The Powers family is here and I am in charge of getting Ryan to Whistler by 5:00. It has begun. June 28 The Powers McLeod wedding was a blast that doesn't seem to have an end. There is half a keg in the garage for Canada Day and days in between. I need home for a rest. July 25 Wow wedding number 2 today. It has been a fantastic blast from the past for a bunch of us from CAISL to get together in Portland for the wedding. I went to a Portland Timbers soccer game the other night and the beer festival yesterday. We have a pool party tomorrow and then I have to start thinking about the long (slow) journey home. I really don't know what else to write since the preference is to be back outside doing it. There will be stories over beers when I get back. August 5 (i think) I am camping out in a thunderstorm in the Badlands of Alberta. Tomorrow is the Dinosaur Museum and Archeological site. After that a quick back track to Calgary to visit Rich and Tricky for a place to crash and then down to Saskatchewan and then the Peg. No idea when I will get back to the borough, a job offer might give me reason to drop the hammer on the accelerator, but no news so far. Good luck to the Soccer Plus team this weekend, winning on the field is always easy if you don't lose it in the bar. Ate ja'. |
Ready... Set... Go! OK I will figure out the photo thing better in the future. |
